David Oakes
Architect
David joined John Coward Architects in 2026 and works across new-build homes, extensions, conservation and heritage projects. He is particularly involved in the early design stages, working with clients to develop the brief into a site-specific design response. He has a strong interest in existing buildings, where new work has to be carefully resolved within an established architectural or historic context.
Before joining the practice, David worked in London and Manchester on commercial, residential and mixed-use projects. His experience includes the Grade II* listed Battersea Power Station and Manchester’s Great Northern site, where he led the planning application for the Grade II* listed warehouse and Grade II listed Deansgate Terraces. Technical detailing is a particular interest. One of his proudest early moments was seeing a precast cladding panel he had drawn and coordinated lifted into place on a Manchester project, turning detailed design work into something physical on site.
