The original property is a high quality three storey terrace within the Kendal Conservation Area on the outskirts of the town centre.
The project brief was to knock down the existing converted outbuilding to the rear which was noticeably colder than the rest of the property, replacing it with a new extension to create an open plan kitchen and dining space with separate utility room.
The design is modest in scale but significantly enhances the internal accommodation. The design had to address the close proximity of the neighbouring properties with the final proposal incorporating a ‘lean -to’ pitched roof abutment with a smaller duo pitched roof achieving the best solution with minimal impact on the neighbours, whilst also maximising the internal heights.
